Europe - Day 1
Geneva, Switzerland
May 1, 2004 Saturday

Goodbye Toronto
I woke up around 9AM getting 6 hours sleep…not ideal, but not bad either. Things were busy as expected. The packing…deleting computer files…working on the images from last night…etc. I called up a few friends but the whole feeling was overbearing. It would have been best to just take off. They knew I was leaving…how many times do you have to exchange goodbyes? I thought about seeing the kids one last time, but nobody was there. I just felt so alone. I'm not even scared or apprehensive of what lies ahead….just alone.

Hello Geneva
The flight from Toronto to Geneva via Amsterdam went through ok. Upon arriving in Geneva, Ginny met me at the airport and off we went to Mon Repos Hotel, a lovely place by the lake. I could see the Jet d'eau from the balcony. Ginny and I talked a lot about everything. It's always invigorating to talk to someone who's done so much in her lifetime - covertly going to the Middle East to complete a human rights report and traveling to the Cordilleras researching on tribal tradition and customs.
