Doods
(April 17, 2005) Just a couple of days before, I was doing small-talk to Doods, one of the climbing instructors at the Power Up gym in Tandang Sora. An outdoor lover, he's also a member of the UP Mountaineers...a fit young guy with a promising future ahead of him.

At 5:11 a.m., I received a text from fellow climber Lissa saying, "Doods passed away at 11:45 p.m. last night. He was hit by a stray bullet while inside the van. No details yet where he'll be taken. Please pray for him...."

The climbing community has lost one of its own. Somehow, there's one less link in this chain. One less warrior in the tribe. Life is so fragile.

I can't get over this. I was just barely recovering from the senseless stabbing-death of UP student Merwin Mendoza and now this. What the hell is happening to this country? Who's next?

I extend my profound condolence to his family, his friends and loved ones. It must be impossible for them to make sense out of this.
