Himaya

Himaya

(April 16, 2005) While attending the Art Introspective show at Alliance Francaise last week, I got into a conversation with a Goth artist, Wawi, after performing a poetry reading. A very interesting person - she parlez-vous French, adept at photography, and now she invites me to a female-power concert, Himaya, at the Metro-Walk. Apparently, she's lead vocalist for the band The Late Isabel - curious about the band name, but didn't get the chance to ask.

At Metro-Hall
The day couldn't be better for an outdoor concert. It was cool with a slight breeze. Upon arriving, the band, Brownbeat, was already performing. Cynthia Alexander was already done - darn! I wanted to see her perform. Imago and Barbie's Cradle were also slated. After taking their turns, I was floored by the tremendous amount of talent and energy that night. Everybody gave their all and took the audience for a great magic carpet ride. Next time I chance on their gig again, there'll be one more fan among the crowd.
