Grip Goes MontalbanGrip Goes Montalban

Event: Rock Climbing
Place: Montalban
Date: April 10, 2005

After a semester-long application to UP's rock climbing student organization, GRIP, we were finally inducted as members. A celebratory outdoor climb to Montalban was well in order, thanks to the tireless efforts of dedicated members, Tal and SK...and then some.

It was scorchingly hot with no available shade. The branches of the only tree providing shade was interestingly trimmed down. For what? It boggles the imagination. We all managed to cower to the little shade...all 10 in a square meter of shade - it made canned sardines a ballroom dance in a cathedral. I wonder how Chonny and Igan managed to give us some roping lessons in that heat.

Top-rope setup took longer than usual while waiting for an earlier group to finish. One thing cool about climbing is that climbers look after their own and extend a brotherly accomodation to their community-kin. Yeah, we're all in this together.

Summer is here and climbing opportunities are just around the corner. Our batch is rock-solid. With the exiting graduating batch, new blood is here with optimism about the coming semester. GRIP goes on.
