November 25, 2005 Friday
Minestrone with my Jap dormates
I had the good fortune to share my Minestrone soup (using Sagada ham - etag) to Tomomi and Minae, 2 Japanese dormates before they headed out to Sagada that evening. They appreciated the gesture they said they'll bring me a kilo of the etag upon their return. Hmmm....more versions of the Minestrone soup coming up.
The Wanderer With the cancelled French class dinner, I was left drifting aimlessly...a lonerider. First, I biked to Sarah's...didn't recognize anyone...biked to Bomika...no UPM dude. Hung out at the corner store having Dan and Erik's P12.50 drumstick and Rolly walks along. We had a few beers at Sarah's with his friends. Feeling the itch to move on, I was off to Mag:net Café to catch Cynthia Alexander.
Cynthia Alexander at Mag:net Café
People say many wonderful things about her but I never had a chance to see her perform...something always happens. It was a no-smoking gig...it's high time. I remember back at the Blue Note in New York when I watched jazz great, Ray Barreto perform on stage. Before uttering a word, he flashes his asthma inhaler to the audience. He said,
"Yeah...I'm a bonafide asthmatic. I'll make you a deal - don't smoke while I'm performing and I PROMISE to play my ass off for you" Nobody smoked and what followed was one of the best kick-ass performance I've seen in years.
That's one thing I appreciate when hanging out at Saguijo in Makati. The audience have the sensitivity to step outside if they should smoke. Of course it can't be done without bar management cooperation (hey Rock Drillon, nudge-nudge, wink-wink!).
That evening however, I've heard better things about Cynthia than what I saw. I guess she was tired. Energy level was low...so was mine. Bidded "ta-ta" to co-owners of the place,
Rock and Jane, and I biked back to UP. This LoneRider is calling it a day.
