FAQ

What is SPINNING®?
SPINNING® is the original group indoor cycling program created by long distance cyclist JOHNNY G in 1987. Johnny G invented the first SPINNER® bike in his garage as a way to train for the ultra-long distance Race Across America while his wife was pregnant. Soon friends asked Johnny to make a few more of his unique bikes and they began to do group rides in his garage. The word spread and Johnny had to deal with people lining up outside his garage for a workout.

In 1989, Johnny G patented his invention and his unique training program and opened the very first SPINNING® Center in California. What happened next was a fitness phenomenon that took the world by storm.

Today SPINNING® isn’t just the number one group indoor cycling program, it is actually the leading GROUP fitness program IN THE WORLD with 20,000 certified Spinning Centers in over 80 countries & more than 100,000 certified instructors and worldwide.

Is SPINNING® just for cyclists?
Did you ever wonder how Oprah Winfrey finally got fit? Oprah is not a cyclist, yet through SPINNING® she found a new source of inner power that helped her get strong & lose the pounds in a healthy way.

SPINNING® is a fantastic fitness solution, not just for cyclists, but for the countless of people who find group aerobics too complicated and cardio machines too boring. Oftentimes, people who REALLY need regular aerobic exercise feel self-conscious in aerobics, step, or even tae-bo classes so much so that they simply drop out. Not with SPINNING®.

Why is SPINNING® so popular in other countries?
With no complex moves to learn, joint-friendly low impact movements, the ability to exercise at your own level at all times, a motivating group environment, great music and great instructors both beginners and elite athletes find themselves having a lot of fun while riding their way towards their fitness goals. The simple yet effective program has been developed from over 17 years of experience.

What's so special about the Spinner® bikes?
Manufactured by STARTRAC, the SPINNER® bikes are built upon the same patented design that Johnny G created in 1987. The unique 40 pound flywheel and fixed-gear system allows the SPINNER® to mimic the feel of a real bike on the open road.

The LOYOLA SPINNING® STUDIO is the first in the Philippines to have the SPINNER® NXTs by Startrac. These next generation Spinners feature rust-proof aluminum frames, micro-adjustable saddle and handlebar settings and extra tough cranks and bearings for the ultimate in safety and durability. For the cyclists, these bikes also feature clipless pedal compatibility (Shimano SPD system).

Are the instructors certified?
All instructors of the LOYOLA SPINNING® STUDIO are certified by Mad Dogg Athletics USA (the company Johnny G founded) to teach SPINNING®.

Furthermore, as certified instructors, our team has access to Mad Dogg Athletics' on-going education programs to allow instructors to sharpen their skills and learn specialized programs.

Most of our coaches are dedicated cyclists and triathletes some of whom compete professionally. Among our top instructors are Kaye Lopez and Bing Alto of the David’s Salon Women’s Professional Cycling Team, cycling enthusiast and TV show host, Paolo Abrera, and one of the most experienced indoor cycling coaches in the Philippines, Toby Gatmaytan.
