Loyola Spinning Studio February 23, 2006 Thursday

Spinning

I was invited to attend a spinning class at a newly opened gym along Katipunan, the Loyola Spinning Studio. All they offer is spinning and first-timers can ride free for a limited period. It's owned and run by a friendly husband and wife team, Paolo and Dana. They love fitness and their hands-on operation add a certain personal touch to the service. Facilities are spick-and-span with clean and well-thought-of appointments. Parking, however, is a challenge. To those who need to be fresh after the workout, a shower facility is available at the penthouse.

Fees and Equipment
At P300 a ride, it's not cheap. In fairness however, they didn't go cheap on the equipment either. They carry the same top-of-the-line spinning bike Lance Armstrong uses: Spinner NXTs by Startrac. It's bombproof and state-of-the-art. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better spinning bike. It's infinitely adjustable to tailor-fit any body geometry.

Spinning Instructor
I would say bike and instructor are equally important in getting a good spinning workout. Xhi and Bing led the class on the 45-min workout. Their energy and smile are infectious. By the time we were done, we were drowning in sweat...nice workout.

Ending Thoughts
Wow...this was quite a workout day - weight training in the morning, deadlift competition in the afternoon and spinning in the evening. I used to workout with this intensity almost daily when I had free access to a gym at my work place in Toronto. I loved it, although I was warned I was on my way to burning out. Well, it didn't happen but the thought has always been in my mind everytime I push the boundaries. Ultimately, I have to be yogic about it - push it and stop when my body tells me so.
