Ed Mateo's Despedida

(April 16, 2005) I get a pleasant surprise in the yahoogroups email about a former high school mate leaving for Houston, Texas. He's hosting a gathering for the batch, most of whom I haven't seen since John Travolta did his moves in Saturday Night Fever. I wonder how they all look now. Will I even recognize them? I had to be there. There was one small thing though...this group didn't like me back in the day. I even fought like crazy with some of them. Oh well, we're grown ups now. I'll just show up and give them all a hug.

Coming from the Himaya Concert in Metro-Walk, I was late. But they were there...I mean faces I had to piece together for recognition...lots of gray hair (like me), a few inches in the tummy, but it all came back. It suddenly seemed like high school once again...only this time, they seem to like me better...moi aussi!
