All-Female Abs Showdown 2008 January 13, 2008

ALL-FEMALE ABS SHOWDOWN 2008

Due to increased female-inquiry, I'm launching an all-female online Abs Showdown for 2008 - beginning when a minimum of 5 entries are in - 11 weeks total! Why an all-female? Well, during the Abs Showdown 2007 (check it out to see showdown formatting), females expressed interest in joining but weren't too comfortable competing side-by-side with men. Hey, I can understand that...and it's cool. Now, you have your own showdown.

Why an Online Abs Showdown?
With your full name, your profile pix and your weekly abs pictures posted online in front of a global audience, no ifs and buts...you're committed. Chances are, you'll work harder to make this work for you.

Prize
Really, whatever your objective is for participating, for as long as you've given it your all, you've already earned your prize. This is one game where more than one wins but nobody loses. At some point, you'll begin to realize it's not about a podium finish or one-upping the next guy, but it's all about you - that's when the fun begins (the polling is just an amusing distraction...and it's fun too!).

Poll Voting
Just to add more fun to it, 2 polls will be done - one is for the most-ripped and the other, the most-improved. Voting will be open on showdown date.

Ending Thoughts

Ariane AlmedaIt was nice being in the competition especially that for me it was more of self-competition. It was good that I can see the other's effort because it pushed me to go on...But it was tough to stick to a healthy diet, to lessen intake of sweets especially that as you avoid them they just become more enticing (Haha), to avoid getting affected whenever friend's tell you that "you're no fun..." or "what are you reducing for?," and to stick to cardio, and the many reps to improve how my abs would look like. -- Ariane

TheLoneRiderI congratulate all four of you. While others just dream about gorgeous abs but remain fence-sitters, you took the step to make it happen. To those who didn't make it to the finish line, hey, you tried. That's much better than wishful thinking. Hoping the experience is a jumpstart to something equally as lofty. AS Bob Marley would say, "she who abs and falters lives to abs another day."

And to Angele and Ariane, who went the whole 9 yards, what can I say? You two leave me awed. You guys rock! I never had it that focused when I started but you guys kept plowing through...on times when it was easier to watch tv, when you had to say 'no' to that decadent dessert, and when you were at the point of failure but strained to do that one last rep. Give yourselves a nice tap on the shoulder...you've earned it.

Warm hugs and kisses to you all...--- TheLoneRider

ABS Workout videos:

  1. THENX
  2. Calisthenic Movement
  3. Saturno Movement

ABS Benchmarks:

  1. Beginner: standards like crunch, leg raise, V-sit, bicycle (when you can do more reps or hold longer, it's time to level up)

    V sit

  2. Intermediate: lolasana, L-sit (leveling up)

    L sit

  3. Advanced: manna (very few people on the planet can do this)

    manna

ABS Tips:

  • drink lots of water (with pinch of salt and juice of 1 lime) instead of soda or fruit juice
  • avoid fatty foods, deep-fried dishes, or food with visible fat (pork chops)
  • decrease your food consumption but eat healthier
  • you can't do it just by doing mega-crunches. you need to diet and do lots of cardio.
  • to measure your progress, you can do a fixed number of abdominal reps/week and increase the number every week. by the end of the program, you should be able to do 600 reps/session - a combination of side-bends, crunches, leg-raises, sit-ups, etc.
  • ideally, you should only use body weight 'coz you want your waist slim and lean...not wide and bulky
  • high rep/low load is ideal until you feel the burn...and then continue until you feel fire!
  • best to take the photo shot with a uni-directional yellow light pointing down...it highlights shadows
