The Invite
Upon my Davao arrival, husband and wife yogis, RL RL and MM invited me to conduct a yoga class in their studio, Yoga Davao, located at the luxurious Palos Verdes Country Club. It was my chance to resume my practice, see the dynamic couple again and meet the yoga community of Davao. This would be my first yoga teaching class since my 3-week yoga immersion in Bali. I was still pumped from the experience. I looked forward to see how Bali has transformed my teaching style.

Power Yoga I asked to have 90 minutes to include Pranayama and Meditation. The synergy generated by these 3 cannot be understated in terms of mental resolve, resiliency to desease and physical strength. I started the class introducing myself - the nomadic yogi who continuously evolve his yoga and out to share the practice (not really 'teach'). I took them to my own private sequence including some unconventional kriyas - Surya Namaskar Burpees, Adhitthana Pose and Uddiyana Bandha vacuums. Even with 90 mins, time wasn't enough to include arm balancing and inversions. But I could sense everyone (including me) were satiated.
Yogis and Yoginis Except for my 2 hosts, none were familiar from my Davao days 2 years ago. But just the same, it was the same warm and accommodating energy permeating throughout. Except for a couple of beginners, most were regular practitioners. With no first timers, no one with an injury and no seniors, I could level-up. And I did, cautioning in no uncertain terms to respect their 'safety edge'.
Ending Thoughts My sequence was essentially the same as before but my teaching style changed. Bali's influence was evident. Aside from articulating the asanas and performing them at the same time, I was also keen on gleaning lessons learned from the mat and how it translates into pragmatic day-to-day application. Inevitably, it's bound to happen. But with awareness, the evolution hastens.
I also relish the chance of meeting members of Yoga Davao's community. With yogis, I am with kindred souls. We share common ground where we don't need to explain ourselves. I look forward to connect with them further in the time I'm in Davao.
Thank you RL and MM for allowing me to conduct this class. Namaste.
