Dance til you Drop at Bollywood Night with Punnu Wasu

Bollywood Bhangra Dance Party
Once again, Renaissance Man, Punnu Wasu delighted his audience as he assembled a full ensemble band for a memorable night of Bollywood dance for all the yogis, meditators and health junkies of The Yoga Barn.
Bollywood Genesis
Bollywood is India's answer to America's Hollywood. Originally intended as a word for film making and movies, the word has now evolved to include the many genres creating the unique flavor and culture of a Bollywood movie, one of which is the traditional song-and-dance number by the cast at the end of the movie. This song-and-dance number is celebrated in tonight's Bollywood dance night.
Punnu Wasu
Ringmaster Punnu Wasu was in his elements again as he played DJ, played keyboard, sang his heart out, danced with everyone and just keep the energy through the roof. Aside from his turban, he wears many hats too. A Renaissance Man in our midst, Punnu is an accomplised massage therapist, Kirtan Meister, Reiki master, meditation teacher, sound healer and all-around guru.

Dance Flavors
It was a mix of people dancing in their own world or group-dancing with a Bollywood dancer who was orchestrating the dance ala Makarena! Punno also introduced the whirling dance where people spread their arms wide and spun around like the Sufi Whirling Dervishes. Another dance highlight was the spinning top - two people cross their arms and hold on tight to the other's wrists...and they start moving in a fast circle, building momentum until they're spinning fast like a top. It was trippy!
Ending Thoughts
Many of those who participated have been immersed in back-to-back yoga, meditation, healing and satsangs for days on end. Bollywood dance night was a much needed respite from all that introspective searching and self-development. And it doesn't get any better than Pied-Piper, Punnu leading the pack in making the blissed-out party happen.

- the tourist area where most of the hotels, restaurants, ticket offices, tour operators are, is concentrated within the rectangular area covered by Jalan Raya Ubud, Jalan Hanuman and Jalan Monkey Forest. Best to book your hotel within this area
- best, cheapest, fastest and most comfortable (this is what I did for Ubud and in Singapore) - at the airport, talk to other white travelers waiting on the same gate if they are going to Ubud. Arrange for a taxi pool. With 3 guys, you split the taxi fare (usually IDR 200k + IDR 5k for airport entrance) three-ways. You end up paying just slightly more (IDR 68k) than roughing it through a series of bemos and vans.
- take a bemo (public bus) to Kuta (IDR 6k) then take a shuttle bus by Perama to Ubud (IDR 50k)
(US$1 = Indonesian Rupiah IDR 13,140 = Philippines Php 47.00 as of July 1, 2016)
