Lost
When I went inside Now's Fitness gym, I realized I was lost. I'd been doing most of my workout on a yoga mat or with my skipping rope. My muscle toning has been mostly calisthenics - using body weight instead of barbells or dumb bells. Gym machines? They are almost alien to me. Back in the day, I used to work out in a gym but it's been so long. What to do? Continue my yogic workout in a way that makes sense to me given what's available.
Just Weird
Imagine an articulated Pull-Up station. I simply rested my feet on one of the horizontal braces to do a side plank. Low-lying ceiling support beam? I used it to support my heels on a handstand. Step-platform? I just used its height to leverage on my Lolasana (tummy tuck on an arm balance). All these sophisticated gym equipment seemed to get wasted on me.
Biceps and Lats (Latissimus Dorsi)
Of all the gym equipment available, I would default perhaps to the dumbbells for my bicep curls and the pull-up station for my Lats. Why? As a yogi, I haven't found any asana that can develop those two. It's easy to push against something (the floor, the wall) but hard to pull your body weight without any contraption. I'll make the most of these equipment for all my practice at Now's Fitness....while I can.
Ending Thoughts
I could just imagine the astonishment of those who noticed what I was doing. What the heck is he doing? I know. Ha-ha, it's funny to me. But it's only my first day. By the time I leave Bangkok, I should have used all these machines the way they were designed to be used. But for now, let's just call it an introduction.
Need to workout? I would highly recommend Now's Fitness.

(Sep 5, 2018) Yup. The missing piece of Yoga is the pull. It's all push. Pull-up bar yoga is next!
